The Star That Always Stays ~ My Book Review

Three days ago, on July 12th, my friend Anna Rose Johnson’s debut The Star That Always Stays released into the world! I’m so excited to share this story with you.

It’s a historical novel perfect for the whole family to read together. It’s clean but also deals with tougher topics in the world, avoiding being too fluffy or the opposite—too dark. We need more stories that strike this balance.

Here’s my spoiler-free review for The Star That Always Stays!

I enjoyed this sweet novel about family and learning to find joy in difficult situations. It was nice to learn more about this time in history (around 1914) as well as Norvia’s culture and family. I loved all the references to classic stories such as Anne of Green Gables, which I’m currently reading for the first time! (And loving as well!)

The story has a wonderful, cozy feeling, especially in the memories on Beaver Island. Imagine sitting around the fire with your family while telling beautiful stories from the past. That’s what it’s like. :)

But it also deals with tougher topics like divorce, learning to adjust to a brand new life and stepsiblings, and also friends abandoning you. Anna Rose does a great job of balancing these elements.

One of my favorite characters is Elton, and I love Dicta and Kittie so much. All the characters are amazing. :)

Overall, this is a great book for the family and I can’t wait to see the rest of the stories Anna Rose writes!
